Bebbe Bigazzi, italian tv-chef recommends his audience to eat cats. House cats. Soak them 3 days in spring water and then stew them in there own juice. Buon appetito!That statement caused a lot of protest and Bigazzi got fired at the end. I wonder why. Most people don't care to eat for instance cows, chicken, pigs. Their keeping emits more greenhouse gases as the worldwide traffic and causes hunger and thirst in many areas on the earth. Not to speak of the brutality of factory farming. I haven't heard from large scale cat keeping for meat production and the most cats are living a life, pigs and co. just can dream of. So where is the problem in eating cats? Because they are more intelligent than other animals? Cuter? That means, we evaluate the value of life on the basis of intelligence and cuteness. That's cynical.Some of Bigazzi's opponents said, that eating cats has no tradition in Italy. That's the worst argument ever. Is there a tradition of treating animals as machines? Is there a tradition of a kilogram mince meat under 2 €? A tradition of fast food?I certainly don't want to encourage people to eat cats. But I want that everybody applies the same moral standards to animals, of what ever species.

german cuisine: quick and dirty/using up old bread

Some french chef once stated: "There's no german cuisine. There's just the german art of using up what's left." I agree. I've no cue what german cuisine might be (what is "german" anyway?), but I know, how to squeeze out my fridge and turn its often minimal content not into gold, but into some delicious, quick meal. As lent will turn me into a vegan, I was furthermore forced to use up my last animal products. In this case it were just three eggs; not too much of a problem. Than I had some old heel of a bread and fortunately a couple of these boxes with grains such as rice, bulgur, couscous and wheat. I went for the latter which I simmered until ready. In the meantime, I beat the eggs into a bowl and mixed them with some salt and freshly grounded pepper. I chopped the bread into small bits and soaked them in the eggs. Then I chopped two tomatoes, gave everything (egg with bread, tomatoes) into a pan and fried it from both sides to an omelette.That gave a delicious and fast (about 15 min) dinner. I just seasoned the wheat with a dash of soy sauce.Quick and dirty. Maybe it's that what german means?What are you doing with your old, hard bread, that feels like a stone when you bite on it?

new series of articles: the kitchen

I'm happy to announce a new series of articles on www.johann-strube.org; "the kitchen." As this place become more and more a central part of my life in the last year - territorially as well as mentally - it seemed logical to write about it.Actually I planned to set up a subblog for that. But since that appears to be technically impossible with wordpress, I'll just weave this new series into my general stream of consciousness, that is blog. Just click on "the kitchen" among the categories on the right, and you'll find all the corresponding entries. All right, then.So why writing about "the kitchen." The kitchen for me is more than just a room. It's the space where raw food is being processed into something edible, hopefully enjoyable and sometimes inspiring. As even the richest among us have to eat and as the quality of what we ingest to a great extent determines the quality of our lives, we better treat the kitchen and its activities with fair respect. Moreover, it's also often the place, where people come together to eat, sit and have a good time. Therefore, it serves an important social function and satisfies another vital need.It's rather interesting, that my enthusiasm to cook was mostly lifted during my time in Iceland; in a country with a very limited range of fresh, organic, inspiring groceries. However, it was part of my job for the fantastic record label bedroom community, to meet the high culinary demands of amazing musicians, engineers etc. almost everyday with just these limited options. So I was forced to creativity.On the other hand, I was part of a unique community of international students, couchsurfers and hosts, activists and artist, where mostly vegan, sometimes skipped dinners served for the main social venue.Whereas "cooking in Iceland" is worth an own series of articles, I will also cover other culinary treats and habits I discover along my journeys, handy tips and recipes for the everyday-cuisine, thoughts about where our food actually comes from and more semi-intellectual meta-musing about the sense of the kitchen like this very first entry.I hope you'll enjoy it and your meal. open your doors for the homeless

The whole north of Europe is struggling against an extreme winter. While the majority of the population is confronted with cancelled trains, burst pipes and snow clearing, homeless people have to fight for their survival. According to Spiegel Online, 15 people has been killed by the cold only in Germany. It's a question of humanity, that (semi-)public institutions such as schools, churches, stations etc. open their doors for them. The life of people is more important than physical education. A good example is the occupied lecture hall of the University Vienna, where the students allow homeless people to find a shelter from the cold. All of us, who have the opportunity to help freezing people to survive, commit non-assistance of a person in danger. Or something like a passive murder.

climate protection after COP-15 disaster

The 2009 UN Climate Change conference - better know as COP 15 - ended with a surprise. Many expected the conference to fail, but even the notorious naysayer  was staggered by its apparent collapse. Though I can not hide my satisfaction about COP-15s triumphal disgrace, the "outcome" of the conference was a disaster for the planet. Basically, there's no agreement on any limitation of CO2 emissions, no roadmap how to support each other to combat climate change nor even the will, to achieve any kind of binding agreement in the new future. To say, we don't want the global average temperature to rise by more than 2 degree until 2100 won't bother the climate at all. Considering, that most states and scientist were frankly aware of the dimension of the threat of global warming before the summit, the result is the more embarrassing. It's like Spock asking "Captain Kirk, our starship is about to crash into that huge rocky planet in front of us. Do you want me to slow down and change direction?" And Captain Kirk answering "Thank you for that information. Please, open another bottle of wine."So who has lost? Most obviously, the victims of climate change - that is future generations, third world countries, peace - are the main losers. But as I will point out later, there's still hope for them. However, the idea that the climate crisis can be controlled on a governmental level has shown to be false. Not only that the so called political leaders had been unwilling and incapable to seriously fight against global warming and climate justice, the problem was way too complex and the positions to diverse to be solved by one huge summit. This fact challenge the role of the United Nations to host a framework in the fight against the climate catastrophe. If the UN fail to develop new forms of global governance, there historical doom is inevitable. Moreover, both the United States of America and the European Union passed up a chance to take a leading role in the global struggle against global warming. Consequently, they missed a chance to increase political, international influence and to open new markets. As a result, the saving of the planet will take place without  governments, or it won't take place at all.The COP-15 conference showed clearly, that the support of the civil society wasn't welcome. The number of NGO delegates has been reduced from day to day and the peaceful demonstrations faced with police violence. On the other hand, the politicians and delegates who felt to be in charge, failed as mentioned above. As a result, we - the civil society -  have to claim leadership. It's our last change. We have to build local communities to fight against global warming. We have to inspire and empower each other to find creative and working solutions, we have to exercise non-violant disobedience to stop the building of new coal-power stations, highways etc. and we have to organise climate protection bottom-up. If we lead the turn of our carbon addict society into a zero-emission society, our elected representatives will follow.

warming up for COP-15

Piteå - Copenhagen, 20 hours time to sum up my expectations for the Climate Summit COP-15, the reason of journey.

A lot has been said in the run-up to the summit, at which nothing less than the future of our planet will be negotiated. If mankind fails to decrease carbon-dioxide emissions dramatically in the next 4 decades, climate change will cause unimaginable disasters and destroy most of the basic conditions of human life. Already now - after two centuries of reckless economical growth and constant increase of CO2-emissions - many regions in the developing world are suffering from climate change. And what ever result COP-15 will bring, the world wide average temperature would raise for a while, causing even more suffering and destruction. Therefore, COP-15 won't just discuss how to limit climate change, but also who will have to pay for its consequences.

Hence, COP-15 is basically a summit about justice. Whereas most of the western countries can look at the climate question from a pure economical point of view, developing countries have to fight for there survival. It's the developed part of the world which stands for the vast majority of CO2 emissions, but it's the developing part, which suffers most. Whether this gross injustice can be solved, will to a great extent determine, if the summit was an success or not.

But, of course, sharing the costs of climate change is not enough. The summit will have to decide a road map for the transformation from our emission extensive economy to a sustainable, low-to-zero emission one until 2050. This is true with any branch of economy and every country in the world. Most obviously, the developed countries will have to manage the turn to renewable energies and higher energy efficiency. Though the energy need of these countries is insane, they have the best conditions (money and know-how) to master these tasks.

However, that won't be enough. The poorest countries in the world will have to find a way to develop their economy in a sustainable way. As there's not a lot to transform, this is a relatively easy problem. Given, the west provides green know-how and link its foreign aid with strict ecological conditions.

The biggest problem will be the newly industrialising countries, though. They already emit ridiculous amounts of CO2 (China for instance, is the biggest CO2 emitter in the world) and they are determined to continue their partly rapid growth in the future. They will have to find a way to both replace their old, dirty power plants and to base future investments in sustainable, green technology. Again, the west will have to provide know-how, but a great effort has do be done by the emerging nations itself. To find a way, how to combine sustainability and economical growth, will be a key question.

If the COP-15 conference agree on such a road map, it will be a success. In my eyes, the question is not, which country emits how much carbon-dioxide in 2020, 2030 and 2050. They question is, how every country reduce their emissions to the most possible extend and how they can help each other in that enormous task.

9th Nov. 1989: history as a call to action

The fall of the Berlin wall, today 20 years ago, has often been described as a turning point in history. Rightly. Freedom defeated oppression. It was the basis for Germany's reunification and 15 years later, the enlargement of the European Union into Eastern Europe. With no doubt, this process led to a more peaceful, freer Europe. But the fall of the wall has also been a turn in many personal biographies. Suddenly, millions of people were able to visit old friends or relatives again, to travel (almost) freely within Europe and last but not least, to live without fear of political prosecution. In fact, the 9th of November was the birth of my generation, the Generation Europe. The freedom to live and study in England, Iceland and Sweden gave me so more than my parents generation could ever dream of. I'm incredibly grateful for their successful efforts to overcome separation and suppression.However, Europe hasn't learned its lesson. With every stone taken off from walls within Europe, new walls has been built around it. Not to keep inhabitants from leaving, but to protect it from the rest of the world. The freedoms mentioned above, are freedoms of an elite group. The rest of the world, mostly living in Africa, Asia and South America, but also Eastern Europe, has no chance to ever experience them. That is, frankly, a shame for a (group of) people, which often calls itself the avantgarde of democracy, freedom and human rights.When Germany's chancellor Angela Merkel asks the political class to break down the walls of today, it is up to herself and her fellow heads of state, to open Europe. She owes that our history. The 9th of november 1989 wasn't just a historical turn, its anniversary is also a call to act today.

Obama deserves another award

Barack Obama will be awarded with the Nobel prize, the Norwegian nobel-committee  declared today. That's nice for him, but may I ask why? Neither Guantanamo has been closed, nor is there piece in Afghanistan or between Israel and Palestine. It doesn't seem that the United State will insist on a powerful climate regime at the UN climate change conference in Copenhagen nor does the turn of the G8 into a G20 mean a strengthening of the United Nations. Obama is still the leader of the biggest and most powerful army in the world and of a country which still exercise the death penalty like almost no other country (apart from China, Iran, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan). To sum up, the short reign of Obama is not yet characterised by peace.To be honest, Obama certainly raised hope for a better and peaceful world all over the globe. Moreover, he seem to be very committed in many fields regarding multi-polar diplomacy and climate change, but he can't proof any success. Let's hope that his award with the Nobel prize will support him in his ongoing struggles with the congress.However, this day proofs again, that Obama deserves one prize most of all: The award for the most overrated politician in the world.

Deutschland hat gewählt und der spaß ist vorbei. Während das schlechte ergebnis der union und gerade der SPD ja noch verständlich und wohl auch verdient war, sind knapp 15 für die neoliberale FDP ein alamierendes ergebnis. Leidet ein erheblicher teil der deutschen an dem stockholm syndrom und wählt den eigenen peiniger? Haben wir nicht gerade gesehen, dass ein auf schwindelerregenden spekulationen und ausbeutung beruhendes, kontrollfreies finanzwesen katastrophal zum scheitern verurteilt ist? Oder kann es sein, dass die 15% für die FDP dem deutschen egoismus entsprechen, der seine pfründe davon schwimmen sieht und nun seine stimme auf die FDP setzt und sein kapital auf die großen atomkonzerne?Man kann jetzt nur noch darauf hoffen, dass die künftige schwarz-gelbe koalition nur die dinge durchsetzt, die sie bereits angekündigt haben - verlängerung der laufzeiten für atomkraftwerke, mehr gentechnik auf den feldern, steuerliche entlastung von spitzenverdienern bei riesigem haushaltsloch und dass sich die FDP mit ihren bürgerrechtlichen forderungen durchsetzt. Nicht unwahrscheinlich aber, dass die regierung nun allerlei andere vorhaben angeht, die sie im Wahlkampf lieber verschwiegen hat. Guttenberg hat ja bereits eine studie zum bau neuer atomkraftwerke in auftrag gegeben und es ist wohl auch nur noch eine frage der zeit, bis der wirtschaftsflügel der union - angefeuert von den liberalen - das leipziger programm aus der mottenkiste hervorkramt.So oder so wird dieses wahlergebnis den kompletten turn back der rot-grünen regierungsjahre bedeuten. Während die rückkehr der atomenergie den boom der erneuerbaren energien deutlich bremsen wird, werden sich auf der anderen seite die sozialdemokraten der linkspartei anbiedern und jeglichen realismus über bord werfen. Zur erinnerung: Die Agenda 2010 hat niemanden spaß gemacht, sie war gerade vor dem hintergrund des demographischen wandels unabdingbar.Ob aus dieser nationalen katastrophe gar ein zivilisatorischer rückschritt wird, werden die nächsten monate zeigen. Andere konservative partei in europa könnten sich ein vorbild an der FDP nehme, einen deutlich neoliberaleren kurs fahren und damit offenbar auch wahlen gewinnen. Zurück in den 90ern.Viel dramatischer wird es allerdings im dezember werden. Es ist nicht davon auszugehen, dass die deutsche schwarz-gelbe delegation bei der Kopenhagener UN-klimakonferenz für ein neues, starkes klimaregime nach dem Kyoto-abkommen streiten wird. Da von den anderen wichtigen ländern ebenfalls wenig zu erwarten ist, ist also ein scheitern von COP-15 praktisch vorprogrammiert. Und damit wohl auch die letzte chance die erderwärmung bis zum ende dieses jahrhunderts auf 2 grad zu beschränken. Historische Chance vertan.Fazit: Politik macht nicht immer spaß.

Wenn man zur zeit das tagesgeschehen Deutschlands verfolgt, bestätigt sich der eindruck, wie konservativ, mutlos und unkreativ die politische klasse in sachen beziehungen ist. Das TV-"duell" zwischen kanzlerin Merkel und ihrem herausforderer Steinmeier hat gezeigt, dass sich die beiden zu einer scheidung ihrer großkoalitionären vernunftsehe nicht entschließen können. Klar, ziemlich unverdeckt flirtet die kanzlerin mit den liberalen, aber nach heißglut sieht das auch nicht gerade aus, wie folgendes video zeigt:Grüne und FDP, in liebesdingen durchaus liberal eingestellt, sind einem flotten dreier grundsätzlich nicht abgeneigt, können sich aber auf den dritten partner nicht einigen. Die SPD ist den liberalen nicht wild genug, während Trittin mit Merkels phantasie der schwarz-gelben steigbügelstellung nichts anfangen kann. Bleibt als letzte möglichkeit noch der linker gruppensex (rot-rot-grün, umgangssprachlich "kubanisch"), der aber wegen des schmuddelkindes Oscar zur zeit noch unter die kategorie "verbotene liebe" fällt.Um das politische (liebes-)leben deutschlands wieder etwas zu beleben, ruhen daher alle hoffnungen auf den liberalen. Denn wie wir alle wissen:

Bisher ist die FDP noch mit jedem ins bett gegangen.

Update: Und es wird spannend. Altkanzler Schröder verkuppelt das linke lager.

Popping plastics - piece for toy organ

After quite a while, I'm happy to present a new piece of me. It's called "popping plastics" and named after the thing it was written on.

Saftladen Partei Deutschlands

Saftladen. Saftladen. Saftladen. Die SPD ist ein Saftladen. Weil ich heute das große vergnügen habe, meinen 50. blogeintrag schreiben zu dürfen, verreiße ich heute die SPD. Denn sie ist ein saftladen.Ihre andauernde erfolglosigkeit kann einem ja noch sympathisch sein, aber mit welcher ideenlosigkeit sie darauf reagiert, ist erbärmlich. Wo ist das große zukunftsprogramm? Hatte Andrea Ypsilanti in Hessen vor einem knappen jahr wenigstens noch den umbau der energieversorgung hin zu den erneuerbaren in aussicht gestellt, ist von diesem ehrgeiz heute nichts mehr zu spüren. Stattdessen versucht sich der kandidat auf das außenministeramt kanzleramt, Franz-Walter Steinmeier als retter der autoindustrie , ohne den umbrau der flotten auf energeisparfahrzeuge auch nur ernsthaft anzudeuten. Überhaupt Steinmeier. Kreativloser hätte die SPD ihren kanzlerkandidaten kaum auswählen können. Statt auf einen wenigstens ansatzweise progressiv wirkenden kandidaten wie Wowereit oder Sigmar Gabriel zu setzen, sucht sich die SPD den ehemaligen kanzleramtchef aus, dessen einzige reform die agenda 2010 war. Da hätte sie auch gleich August Bebel nehmen können.Und nun der internetfilter. Da ist doch die SPD tatsächlich der CDU hinterhergedackelt und hat das heute verabschiedet. Gegen jeden verstand (so vorhanden), gegen den rat praktisch aller experten innerhalb der partei und gegen 130.000 unterzeichner der antifilterpetition. So etwas nennt man auch politischen selbstmord. Wie es dazu kommen konnte, dazu hat sich "Markus Beckedahl auf netzpolitik.org aufschlussreich gedanken gemacht.Kurzum: Das wahlkampfmotto der SPD für dieses jahr lautet: "Mutlos. Ideenlos. Erfolglos." Bestenfalls noch ein "rubbellos" hintendran.Nur um das nochmal klarzustellen: Ich finde diese dahinkräpeln der SPD keineswegs lustig. Im gegenteil. Auch wenn eine schwache SPD durchaus einen stimmenzuwachs für die Grünen bedeutet, kann ich mich nur bedingt freuen. Denn je schlechter die sozies, desto wahrscheinlicher der super-gau, schwarz-gelb. Und ansonsten schwarz-rot. Bei dieser SPD nicht unbedingt vielversprechender. Man überlegt sich ja schon, aus mitleid sozialdemokratisch zu wählen, aber irgendwie... nee. Ist halt immer noch ein saftladen.Sorry, all ihr progressiven sozies da draußen. Aber ihr habt euch einfach den falschen laden ausgesucht. Den Saftladen. generation einfallslos

Heute hat Spiegel Online mit dem titel "Jung, gut ausgebildet, chancenlos" ein artikel zum thema generation praktikum veröffentlicht. In ihm vertreten die autorInnen Christoph Titz und Britta Mersch grob umrissen die these, dass die heute 20 - 35 jährigen im zeichen der krise trotz bester qualifikationen am arbeitsmarkt nahezu chancenlos seien. Belegt wird das unter anderem mit den argumenten, dass von diesen jungen akademikern fast die hälfte schonmal arbeitslos gewesen sei und "jeder zweite unter 30 schon mal ein befristetes Arbeitsverhältnis" hatte.Das ist nur an belegen reichlich wenig, sondern auch in der aussagekraft ziemlich dünn. Die interessanteren fragen wären doch eher, wie lange diese personen letzlich arbeitslos waren oder wer bis 30 noch gar keinen job gefunden hat. Und wo ist das problem, wenn man mal EIN befristetes arbeitsverhältnis hatte.Diverse praktika im ausland, sprachkenntnisse, einser-abschluss. Laut Spiegel Online "machen so viele [in dem alter] alles richtig" und schaffen's dann doch nicht. Ja, was schaffen sie denn nicht? "Der kleine Traum vom bürgerlichen Glück" oder "die Drohung des sozialen Abstiegs" sollen es sein, die die jugend beschäftigen.Da stellt sich doch eher die frage, ob diese jugendlichen nicht vielleicht alles grundlegend falsch machen.Anstatt die (arbeits-)welt nach ihrem gusto umzugestalten, unterwirft sich diese junge Generation den gesetzen ihrer eltern. Opportunistisch lebt sie den bewerbungsprofilen der großen konzerne und organisationen hinterher, anstatt eben diese zu hinterfragen.Dabei hätte meine generation (ja, ich gehöre dazu. Ich absolviere sogar gerade mein zweites praktikum in folge. Beide im ausland, beide unbezahlt.) dieses anbiedern gar nicht nötig. Dank Facebook und Twitter bestens vernetzt, müsste sie doch eigentlich in der lage sein, eigene strukturen aufzubauen. (zum Nachlesen: "Wir nennen es Arbeit" von Holm Friebe und Sascha Lobo)"Mir soll es nicht schlechter gehen als meinen Eltern" sagen die jungen. Ja, warum stellt denn diese generation den materialistischen lebensentwurf ihrer eltern nicht in frage? Die ewige lüge vom ständigen wachstum und der damit verbundenen aussicht auf vollbeschäftigung sollte sich ja nun im zeichen der wirtschafts- und klimakrise endlich auch dem letzten offenbaren. Warum also nicht gleich das elterliche eigenheim (oder vielleicht eher das der großeltern. Dieser wandel hat ja nicht gerade gestern angefangen oder wann hatten wir eigenlich das letzte mal vollbeschäftigung?) gegen freiheit eintauschen? Gegen die freiheit, sich nicht fortwährend sagen lassen zu müssen, was zu tun ist und was nicht.Auch hätte die heutige jugend das zeug dazu, den begriff arbeit endlich neu zu definieren. Weg von der fremdbestimmten erwerbsarbeit hin zu einer selbstbestimmten, selbsterfüllenden arbeit. Meine generation könnte zum beispiel lautstark das bedingungslose grundeinkommen fordern, um genau diese arbeit zu ermöglichen. (Lesenswert in diesem zusammenhang ist dieser zum Nachlesen: heise-artikel von Jens Berger.)Aber soweit ist sie noch nicht. Selbst schuld.Ich will hiermit nicht behaupten, dass praktika, auslandsaufenthalte und einser-abschlüsse per se schlecht sind. Im gegenteil. Jedoch sollte man schon hinterfragen, ob man sie macht, um persönlich voran zu kommen oder nur, damit sie am ende auf dem eigenen lebenslauf stehen.Am ende meine bitten: 1. liebe angehörige meiner generation: Vergesst was euch jahrelang als "die karriere" oder "der lebenslauf" eingetrichtert wurde und macht euch endlich selbst gedanken, wie ihr leben wollt. 2. sehr geehrte Frau Mersch, sehr geehrter Herr Titz: Sollten Sie noch einmal einen artikel schreiben, predigen sie bitte nicht nicht irgendwelche überkommenen bürgerlich-materialistischen ideale und vor allem schreiben Sie nicht so einseitig. (Es gibt nämlich sowohl noch junge leute mit ähnlichen qualifikationen und anderen lebenseinstellungen als auch junge leute ohne einser-abschluss).

Europe as a trial to overcome national thinking

Today, the election of the European Parliament started. Reason enough to outline my desired Europe. Being grown up after the second world war and inspired by different journeys within Europe, I really feel like a member of a new, European generation. To me, the term European Union doesn't only mean the possibility to live and work anywhere in the Schengen area, but the overcoming of national thinking.Having said this, I'm very concerned, that Europe is right on the way to become and elite club, excluding the rest of the world: The Fortress Europe. As a interstation on the way to real global governance, Europe must not make the same mistakes of the national countries again, just on another level. Therefore, the success of the European projects depends on its ability to be open to the world and to take international responsibility.As on every stage, human rights and sustainability must be the main criteria of European politics. I support an Europe, which finally acknowledge the right on asylum as well as the freedom of torture and which stops any discrimination of whatever minority. I support a sustainable Europe, as well in economic as in ecological terms. Both the recent economic crisis and the ongoing climate crisis thought us, that the only reasonable way of living is a sustainable one.On that account I wish, that every European take advantage of her or his constitutional franchise and vote for a party which stands for the values mentioned above.An alle deutsche: Leute, wählt Grün. Welche partei bitte sonst hat eine stimmige antwort auf die probleme der zeit? Die CDU steht für nationalstaat, abschottung und überwachung, die FDP für den komplett gescheiterten (und zerstörerischen) neoliberalismus. Der linkspartei ist vielleicht noch am ehesten nachhaltiges handeln zuzutrauen, aber die einzige konsequenz ihrer extremen europaskepzis ist eine renationalisierung der politik. Wäre noch da noch die SPD.Wirkt nicht gerade erfrischend progressiv, aber man begeht sicher auch keinen großen fehler, die zu wählen. financial crisis leads to a shift to the left in Iceland

Yesterday, general elections in Iceland took place. Good news, for several reasons. First of all, with Jóhanna Sigurðardóttir, the first openly gay politician in the world was elected as the head of state. This is another step forward in the social acceptance of gays.Secondly, the left parties - Samfylkingin (the Social Democratic Allegiance)  and Vinstrihreyfingin – grænt framboð (the left-green movement) - won the overall majority in the Alþingi, the oldest running parliament in the world. Sjálfstæðisflokkurinn, the Independence Party who stands for the neoliberal policy with led into the devastating financial crisis. With a increase of 5 seats, the Greens were the big winner of the elections. Congratulations.These results are very interesting, as the Icelandic elections are the first general elections in a western European country in the light of the financial crisis.  Though the impact of Iceland on European politics are clearly limited, one hopes, that these results marks a turning point. That people realise, that the conservative parties in Europe, who stands for radical open markets messed up both economy and environment. And that the only reasonable conclusion is to vote for parties, which advocate sustainability.So there's hope for coming election, like for the EP in June or the German Bundestag in September

the ambivalence of flying/die mär vom fliegen Pt. II

Friday night. Sitting on a plane to Reykjavik. Me. On a plane. Me, who use to take the bus to travel trough half Europe to prevent flying, sitting on plane. As the engines the big destruction of the environment starts, their is nothing like a bad conscious. It is just like, thrilling. I know, flying isn't much of a thing, but for me it's stunning. A tons-heavy colossus takes off and transporting me thousands of miles in a couple of hours. My conscious is blown away by a acceleration of a rocket.After landing, mind and conscious comes back. Though I think, it is justifiable to take a plane to Iceland (I just couldn't make it in time with a ferry), the flight left me with a numb feeling. I know, there's no way of setting off the carbon dioxide  emissions of a flight. Things like atmosfair are more like selling of indulgences rather than making an valuable impact against climate change. While my flights response for about 600 kg CO2 in 3 hours, trees plant in comparison could only absorb this amount in a lifespan.So I consider to donate the amount of money atmosfair suggest for an organisation like greenpeace. Or the green party. At the end, it is a political matter, that flights are taxed in a relation to their impact on the climate.What do you thing?

queer-feministisches Manifest; Bundeskongress des Grünen Jugend

Ich war am vergangenen wochenende auf dem bundeskongress des Grünen Jugend in Stuttgart.  Der leitantrag drehte sich ganz um das thema gerechtigkeit.  Andere anträge befassten sich mit googles street view, der veganen verköstigung des bukos, mit einem neuen klimaschutzregime und vielen weiteren themen.Der wohl bemerkenswerteste, weil progressivste beschluss war das queer-feministische manifest "Fuck gender, be yourself," das die entsexualisierung der gesellschaft fordert. Ich würde mir wünschen, dass das manifest auch mal als antrag an die bundesdelegiertenkonferenz der altgrünen gestellt wird.  Nur so kann die debatte auch weiter in die gesellschaft getragen werden.Während das manifest auf dem buko ohne gegenrede und nahezu ohne gegenstimmen beschlossen wurde, würde ich das bei der partei nicht unbedingt erwarten.  Es würde mich brennend interessieren, wie einige altgrüne versuchen, die willkürliche und diskriminierende einteilung der gesellschaft in geschlechter zu verteidigen. Das wäre ein spaß.

schwarzer tag für digitale freiheit

Für die freiheit im internet ist heute ein schwarzer Tag. Erst sperren die wichtigsten internetprovidern auf familienministerin Leyens iniative hin den zugang zu etwa 1000 seiten, die vom BKA ausgewählt werden und angeblich kinderpornografisches material zeigen und dann, werden die betreiber der torrentfile-datenbank pirate bay zu hohen strafen verurteilt.Zu dem kinderpornofilter: Eine im internet veröffentlichte, vergleichbare filterliste aus schweden hat gezeigt, dass viele seiten blockiert wurden, die zwar wenig geschmackvoll, aber letztlich juristisch gesehen keine kinderpornografie darstellen. Da die listen nicht mal einer parlamentarischen, geschweige denn einer öffentlichen  kontrolle unterliegen, ist die missbrauchsgefahr groß. Und dass allein der unbestätigte anfangsverdacht der verbreitung oder besitz von kinderpornografischem material taugt, politische karrieren zu zerstören, zeigt der fall (im doppelten sinne) des SPD-politikers Teuss. Letztlich ist mit der sperrung von kinderpornografie die infrastruktur geschaffen, auch andere inhalte zu filtern zensieren.Wenn diese maßnahme wenigstens ihr vordergründliches ziel - kinderpornografie zu verhindern - erfüllen würde. Doch davon ist nicht auszugehen. Durch die aufrufung der direkten IP-adresse, ist der filter leicht zu umgehen. Außerdem wird das BKA den anbietern von kinderpornografie immernur hinterher rennen können. Zu schnell können provider auf andere adressen ausweichen. Von anderen möglichkeiten der verbreitung ganz zu schweigen.  Außerdem verhindert die erschwerung des zugangs zu kinderpornografie nicht den missbrauch des kindes. Geradezu lächerlich wird die ankündiogung der provider, statt der anvisierten kinderpornoseite ein stoppschild anzeigen zu wollen. Würde man das problem ernst nehmen, sollte man stattdessen hilfsangebote für kinderpornosüchtige verlinken. Damit wäre nicht nur dem süchtigen (was nicht heißen soll, dass alle konsumenten von kinderpornografie süchtig sind), sprich kranken geholfen, sondern langfristig tatsächlich die nachfrage reduziert.Das wir uns nicht falsch verstehen: Kinderpornografie ist tatsächlich eines der perfidesten verbrechen. Und zwar, weil sie auf missbrauch und vergewaltigung von kindern fußt.  Doch um diese zu verhindern, braucht es keine neuen Gesetze - das geltende strafgesetz ist da eindeutig - sondern die konsequente umsetzung der selben. Es ist relativ einfach, über die IP-adressen der kinderpornoseiten den ort des servers herauszufinden. Internationale zusammenarbeit vorrausgesetzt, ist es damit relativ einfach den betreiber hopps zu nehmen. Durch die blockierung der seiten, wird ja weder material vernichtet noch irgendjemand der justiz zugeführt. Außerdem ist es wichtig, zu fragen, warum menschen kinderpornos anschauen und diesen menschen - wie oben beschrieben - zu helfen. Da sind die hilfsangebote bisher viel zu gering.Aber es kommt noch schwärzer. Heute wurden die betreiber von pirate bay, einer der wichtigsten datenbanker für torrentfiles zu haft- und hohen geldstrafen verurteilt. Ihnen wird beihilfe zur massenhaften verletzung von urheberrechten vorgeworfen. Wahr ist: über das bittorrent-netzwerk werden enorm viele musikalben, filme und zunehmend auch bücher und aufsätze illegal verbreitet. Aber mit diesem argument könnte man auch das internet als solches verbieten. Ohne internet, keine massenhaften urheberrechtsverletzungen. Man könnte auch gleich zeitungen verbieten. Schließlich kann man damit diffamierende texte, kinderpornos und ähnliches verbreiten. Oder korkenzieher. Damit kann man ja jemanden die augen ausstechen.Es stellt sich also die frage, was will man eigentlich verbieten. Das medium oder das eigentliche verbrechen, was damit begangen wird. Schließlich ist es keineswegs der fall, dass über bittorrent nur geschützes material geschütz wird. Viele musiker nutzen torrents um ihr musik kostengünstig zu verbreiten, gleiches gilt für software-updates/patches und vieles mehr. All dies wird nun durch die verurteilungen der pirate bay betreiber erschwert.Freiheit bedeutet die möglichkeit, gutes wie schlechtes zu tun. Wir sollten das schlechte (ob das tauschen von musik, filmen etc. nun schlecht ist, sei mal dahingestellt) sanktionieren, nicht die freiheit.

die mär vom fliegen

Wenn ich am kommenden sonntag mit dem bus von London nach Hamburg fahre, zahle ich 57 £. Das ist ein guter preis, darüber will und kann ich nicht klagen. Wäre ich geflogen, hätte ich 30 £ gespart. Das verwundert einen schon. Mit dem zug hätte ich über 500 € gezahlt. Also fast das 20-fache. Und spätestens hier hört der spaß auf.Habe gerade ein interview mit Michael Cramer, grüner MdEP gefunden, in dem unter anderem erklärt wird, wie das sein kein. Ein interessantes video, was ich euch nicht vorenthalten will.
